Comic and architecture. Two different art forms tied by slight and hardly define but recognizable connections. Have you ever noticed how many students and graduates of schools of architecture are involved in comic production? At the exhibition four authors represent each country of the Visegrad Four. „BEFORE/AFTER“ – KOMIXXX selection brings the exhibition of Hungarian magazine the Direct Fanzine joined by authors of other Visegrad Four countries. The Direct Fanzine has been published since 2006 by students of Visual Communication of Nyíregyház College in cooperation with graphic artists, street artists and comic authors from Budapest and Debrecen. Soon after its founding, the magazine became a popular part of Budapest´s zine-scene. Primarily as a free project, the magazine wasn´t limited by any themes. Subsequently for each edition, the authors create concept of single subject significant for all artists, compact form and different colour expression.

The Ondřej Sekora´s comic hero Ferda the Ant was born as a protagonist of illustrated serial story, first published in 1933 in Lidové noviny in Brno. Ferda soon became the most popular author´s hero subsequently adopted by literature, radio, theater and movie. Many other comic authors have been fascinated by the resilient ant paying him tribute by their own illustrated story. The exhibition presents Czech contemporary comic top authors e.g. Jiří Grus, Karel Jerie, Dan Černý, Jiří Pavlovský... who involved Ferda The Ant in their comic stories.

The events in the book are based on a true story. Not long ago it emerged that two German police officers had been members of a Ku-Klux-Klan spin-off group operating in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. During questioning as part of later police investigation, both officers refuted accusations of racism, claiming that they had joined the Klan solely to meet new people, particularly those of the opposite sex. The also complained about the Klan´s initiation ceremony, which took place in a forest and was allegedly poorly organised. Two officers were subjected to disciplinary action but, due to their supposed naïveté, they were allowed to keep their jobs in the German police force.

Since 2009 the graphic serie Nusle has been created by Honza Bažant, inspired by the most specific Prague neighbourhood. More surrealistic scenes join together many stories, seemingly not related but in fact deeply linked. The graphics refer to the dreams, to the stories we presume from pieces of events touching us very lightly. That way the city life is paraphrased, we are enclosed by thousands of stories from which just bits are perceived. But, anyway, they all together create imposing unit – the city. The pictures are richly infiltrated by scenes taking place in outskirts as representing side areas of our mind. The Nusle project is just anchored in free imagination nourished by rich visual perception.

Kristian Hellesund´s lecture
Kristian Hellesund (*1970) is comic publicist, publisher and tireless comic propagator. He is coming from Bergen, Norway. During the lecture, Hellesund will briefly summarize a history of Norwegian comic and zoom in ten key authors of contemporary Norwegian comic. Equally he will present current issue of Bobla magazine in which Czech authors participated.

The opening event of the festival is mural painting created on chosen facade by a local street artist called TIMO.
Mural the term for outside painting applied directly on buliding facades of the city. Therefore is able to address a wide range of onlookers passing the city streets. The mural painting is different from other kinds of visual art due to inseparable connection to an architecture. The application of colours and attractive motives can change a view on building proportions and their surroundings. The mural painting makes art closer to those who otherwise don´t have any attitude or access to it.
TIMO
The street art solitaire called himself TIMO (as pseudonym) lives in Brno. The artist who strictly keeps his identity in secret. His own creative reflexion is based on comic, authentic poetry and contemporary social conotations. TIMO is well known for pointed even pragmatic commentaries. Within the festival he creates concept of mural painting which speaks to passers-by and provides a new view on unattractive and overlooked wall in the city centre.

Beauty and the Beast in Šestá větev "genius loci" café. A fragile poetics of Zuzana Kleinerova´s calligraphy visualisation meets on the exhibition a stormy vivid graffiti style of Filip Veselý, overlapping to abstract expressive painting. The exhibition comes into being directly on the spot. The process of creation of site-specific confrontational painting is open on Moravian Square no. 12 from September 23, 2015.

The Czech-Slovakian couple of comic scriptwriters and movie makers living in Brno. Specializing in short horror stories with kid heroes, the authors will present their comic production, above all, trilogy "Třída smrti", "Zámek hrůzy" and "To není moje sestra!" drawn by Lenka Šimečková and appreciated film adaptation by Pavel Soukup. Paul Kirchner – The Bus
Has this ever happend to you that you got on the bus and got off somewhere you didn´t want. We guarantee you will live the similar feeling everytime when you open the book!
The vehicle from another space is approaching – the Bus doesn´t recognize the space, time even fantasy borders! Paul Krichner´s strips entitled The Bus were published periodically in the American legendary comic magazine Heavy Metal during 1979–1985. Czech edition includes all published strips and six more strips never published. Paul Kirchner is also author of epilogue especially written for Czech edition.

The exhibition Brno in Comics was produced within the project of Brno and Utrecht, two partner cities. As a reaction to similar exhibition of DE INKTPOT, dozen short stories created especially for the event were presented in Brno in 2010. Each author picked one of the twelve chosen places in the city and surroundings and interpreted them in comic way. What you can find among them is e.g. old town hall (from Dan Černý), the Villa Tugendhat (from Milan Sodoma), the Zbrojovka factory (from Vendula Chalánková), new swimming pool in Kraví hora (from Jiří Grus) or phenomenon of Brno´s night starts (from Tomáš Kučerovský). The exhibition presents 12 different approaches and proves comic to be contemporary and dynamical visual form of any content.
The new book KOMIKS V BRNĚ will be launched within the exhibition.

Tom Keral aka DJ Tomino, a descendant of Turkish refugees from the mid-twentieth century, when Island was at risk by dangerous Vulcano´s vulcano fallout, entered Brno by foot for the first time. On two wheeler carried broken-down but still functional giant guitar called „Nóga Stór Gítar Frá Skít“ and started to play in Brno´s clubs. During his shows in Fléda club met Josef „Auto“ Lada who still alive acquainted him with Jakub Holomek aka DJ Myslivec, Ferda club script editor. They altogether found out musical feeling.

Výběr mezinárodního festivalu animace Fest Anča představí ty nejzábavnější superhrdinské parodie amatérských, ale i profesionálních tvůrců, které za poslední období vytvořila YouTube komunita. Animace se na YouTube neobjevuje jen v podobě reuploadů, ale vzniká i primárně pro tento kanál. Mnoho tvůrců a studií se totiž zaměřuje na původní online tvorbu, jejíž část se často vyznačuje pastišemi, parodiemi a odkazy na dobře známé filmy a komiksové superhrdiny. Výběr se zaměřuje primárně na Batmana, jednoho z nejikoničtějších hrdinů komiksového vydavatele DC Comics, doprovázejí ho i další každému dobře známé postavy. Připravte se na promítání plné krátkých skečů, bourání mýtů a nadužívaných superhrdinských motivů.

The exhibition of 12 radio plays translated by 12 authors into comic. The artists chose and worked up ever one play by their own according to the genre they tend. Dark alternative electronic music / Brno
The Narcotic Fields band was found in 2007. It drew attention to itself very quickly by the fragile acting of singer Tereza Kopecká, guitar indie sound and dark electronic fusion. In 2009 first album Erase was released following long tour through Czech Rebublic, Slovakia and Poland. At the end of 2013, the band in new formation was back on stage with new EP Disorder. Presently, the band stands up with new concert programme and is about to finish new album Tripophobia.

The comic was originally prepared for collective exhibition along with Lukáš Fíla (photography) and Tomáš Kumstát (video). The exhibition entitled Investör was organized by Dílna ručního papíru in Litoměřice. The common theme confronted actual question of controversial highway construction running through protected natural park of České středohoří. Who are those people standing behind megalomaniac "creative" development affecting living enviroment, landscape character and city urbanism? Why "their" constructions appear all of a sudden in completely unaccceptable forms in unexpected places? There is no easy way to find a person concrete and responsible and therefore answer the question who stands behind this "creative" architecture. The investor is mystical and indiferent existence. Unfortunately, his activity is more than obvious.

This is rock’n’roll. The uncalculated retro. The most vivid Czech guitar sound. One year after debut album Foe Dry (X Production) released on vinyl in spring 2012, the band Vees, indie-rock´n´roll chance, presents new EP Golden Preview. The most progressive Czech music store Supraphonline offers three new tracks free download. Therefore EP Golden Preview is one of the first track has ever been offered gratis by Supraphonline. Karel Bezouška, the Supraphonline´s agent says: „We try to support Czech talented musicians and bring them closer to the widest audience." There was a launch party for the Vees band new repertory during its three 2015 spring concerts with guests: Mardoša (Tata Bojs), Zdeněk Bína (ex -123 minut), The Depakine Chrono band or Sváča (Please The Trees).

Timeless of unheated joint on the Munich outskirts, rancid coffee, cheap biscuits, keynote talks about geopolitical situation, culture, art, sex and unpaid electric bill. The reprise of The Centre for Central European Architecture Project focusing on comparing approaches of the youngest Czech architect generation and on connection of architecture with different art fields. The aim of the project is to promote attractive and plain intelligible presentation form of architecture to the general public through another art medium. In terms of the forth exhibition round architecture is interconnected with comic. The comic authors give an account about the youngest architectonic and actual comic scene in reaction to the architectonic projects.
The project was provided by CCEA in years 2006–2007.

The exhibition of Stanislav Setinský, an illustrator, graphic designer and comic drawer, painted directly on the white interior wall, is also the first exhibition in newly opened Panksy café. Equally it´s one of the three opening exhibiton of the KOMA festival.
Stanislav Setinský was born in sunny day, July 1985 in the mother of cities, in the city of hundred towers which still has been forming his life. Mostly he hacks around on the river bank, where beautiful city parks Letná and Stromovka are. Sometimes he crosses the bridge riding his blue bike, heading a university to announce there, that he is still alive and his diploma once be earned.
If not just keen on doing a job and stains himself, he sits at his work table, smoking cigarettes, one after another (I´ve stopped that already!) and draws and draws… otherwise sits in the pub or lies in bed with his beautiful, young, eyed girlfriend. He likes good books (even bad if nice pictures in), good food (pancakes a lot!), good music (which he makes too with the Kočkolit band inspiring with soulful lyrics (e.g. every other is an Idiot in the country) not only teenagers, but beautiful girls too, e.g. his mother.
